Due to the thermal nature of tattoo removal, it is important to understand the care required post treatment.

Mild swelling and redness commonly occurs at the site of treatment for the first few hours post treatment. Some may experience blistering, bleeding, discomfort or itching for several days post treatment, and may find it beneficial to apply ice packs, antiseptic creams such as Bepanthen and a protective dressing . Hot water, heat and tight clothing should be avoided for the first few hours post treatment.
The treated area may be at risk of developing pigmentation post treatment. It is recommended to avoid sun exposure, solariums, and spray tans 2 weeks post treatment and to apply a SPF 30+ sunscreen.
Due to the swelling and heat associated with laser treatment, it is recommended to avoid any physical activity that increases the body’s temperature 24 hours post treatment. Excessive perspiration can lead to infection, and chemicals present in pools and spas can aggravate a compromised skin. Maintaining a cool, clean skin can expedite recovery time.
Retinols, glycolic and alpha hydroxy acids, chemical peels, microdermabrasion and exfoliants should be avoided for at least 2 weeks post treatment. Make-up, deodorants and perfumes may be applied 24 hours post treatment. Exposed areas should be protected with a SPF 30+ sunscreen immediately after treatment.
Tattoo ink in the treated area will take approximately 6 weeks to fade. It is recommended to massage the treated area daily with a nourishing moisturiser during this period to assist skin healing and increase blood circulation, enhancing the tattoo removal process. Variations in the rate of ink fading is based on ink colour, ink amount, tattoo location, white blood cell count, and general health. In some cases, several treatments may needed before a noticeable reduction in tattoo ink can be observed.
